When we stop growing emotionally, it can be a dark place.
Depression is rife in today’s society because of two main things:
- People are addicted to their problems and;
- People can’t see light at the end of the tunnel.
Part of the problem is that social media has infiltrated our lives.
Never before has it been so easy to compare ourselves to others.
And comparison really is the thief of joy.
The thing to realise is that happiness is ultimately a choice…but the #1 thing that drives happiness can be summed up with one word:
Progress is about constant growth no matter how small.
It’s what brings an ongoing sense of fulfilment to your life and it is essentially derived from TWO key places:
People and Projects.
Choose carefully who you hang out with.
Social studies have proven that as human beings, we basically become the sum total of our five closest friendships.
That means you are pretty much ‘a product’ of your social surroundings, so your environment needs to be chosen wisely.
If your inner circle doesn’t inspire you or lift you up, then it’s probably time to find a new tribe or circle that does.
Seek out groups online and in real life that have similar interests, that energise you and that help you to grow – and bind yourself to these people and groups.
The second critical area that dictates your ongoing happiness, is the extent to which you have projects that you can attach yourself to.
Projects are like fuel.
They give us a reason to get out of bed every day.
Whether it’s a new business, side-hustle, hobby, or signing up for an athletic event…
All of these things will keep you alive emotionally, give you something to pursue and contribute greatly to your sense of fulfilment and happiness.
If you or someone you know, suffers from a lack of hope, it might be time to get back to basics.
That spark can be reignited by avoiding comparison and by simply finding a new vibe and passion project to attach yourself to.
